Maine Civil Liberties Union Advocates for HIT Privacy
Posted: April 2011
The Maine Civil Liberties Union is calling on the state legislature to pass a medical patient privacy and consent bill that would require that patients who opt-in to a health information exchange be allowed to review their electronic health records and be notified of any breaches. The bill would require that patients authorize any disclosure of their electronic data for marketing or sales. It would also prohibit the denial of treatment or payment based on non-participation in the state’s health information exchange.
