Alaska and Rhode Island—our largest and smallest states—joined Maryland in the headlines during April. All 3 states celebrated successes in their efforts to connect doctors and hospitals to health information exchanges (HIE).
Hawaii, Alaska Sign Telehealth Partnership

The University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Alaska Federal Health Care Partnership recently agreed to develop and implement telehealth technology throughout the Pacific region. Both Alaska and Hawaii are characterized by remote, rural settings that make it challenging to deliver health care. In addition, both states are home to native populations that suffer from higher rates of serious illness and chronic disease, including diabetes.
