Cathedral Square Shines Spotlight on Housing Plus Services with Bipartisan Policy Commission

by Published On: May 03, 2013

Congratulations to Cathedral Square for shining a national spotlight on the need for affordable housing plus services through a visit from the Bipartisan Policy Council (BPC). The council published a report that highlighted the need for affordable senior housing to help facilitate aging in place.

Cathedral Square invited members of the commission to visit their organization and participate in a public relations campaign to educate people about Cathedral Square's Support and Services at Home (SASH) program and how their work is a model for the rest of the country.

Part of the media tour included an appearance on WCAX television news. BPC Associate Director Nikki Rudnick appeared with Cathedral Square's Molly Dugan, who directs SASH. Rudnick discussed the BPC's policy recommendations for investment in senior housing.

Dugan explained how SASH creates partnerships between housing, home health, support services and the state government to support elders in their own homes.

BPC Commissioner Nan Roman, president and CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness joined Rudnick for the site visit.

They met with Governor Shumlin and key leaders in his administration and participated in a hearing of the state legislature. Rudnick also met with staff from Sen. Leahy and Sen. Sanders, and Rep. Peter Welch’s offices.
