Cantata Adult Life Services promoted Brookfield resident John Larson to Chief Executive Officer this month. Larson takes over for Dennis Sonnenberg, who will assume a new role with the soon to be formed British Home Foundation and will continue to serve Cantata in a consulting capacity.

In Larson’s new role as head of the not-for-profit Cantata, he will spearhead the company’s ongoing efforts to expand and initiate new business ventures and partnerships.

As chief operating and financial officer for Cantata, Larson was instrumental in the addition of assisted living residences to the organization’s residential living options in 2004. Larson also lead the charge to form a new strategic vision for the organization (formerly known as the British Home), positioning Cantata Adult Life Services to become one of the premier providers of services to older adults and their families in the Chicago area.

Having compassionately served seniors for nine decades, the British Home expanded to become Cantata Adult Life Services in January 2012. To meet the changing needs of active adults, Cantata offers in-home services, handyman and home remodeling services, expanded fitness, wellness and lifelong learning programs, rehabilitation and outpatient therapy services, and varied living options.

"When I started working for this company, I was surprised to find an organization that was not driven by growth or profit, but by their mission to deliver the highest quality of life to the people they serve," says Larson.  "The financial stability we’ve achieved over the past two decades allows us to move forward and offer even more life-enhancing services and opportunities for clients to live their best lives. We are a financially sound not-for-profit following a strategic plan of enhancing services to include a broader group of older adults."

Larson brings with him thirty years of experience in finance, operations, information systems and management. Twenty of those years were with Cantata. Larson’s career in finance began as an Accounting Supervisor at Old Republic International Corporation.

He currently serves as Treasurer of Trinity Risk Solutions, and is a past treasurer for Abbeyfield Senior Housing. Larson serves on several advisory committees for local community groups, and was named an American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) Leadership Fellow in 2009.

Larson earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration from University of Illinois at Chicago. He resides in Brookfield with his wife and three children.
