Carroll Lutheran Honors Local WW II Veteran at Homecoming
Carroll Lutheran Village partnered with its local community to focus its Homecoming event on remembering a local World War II veteran who was killed in action.
More than 200 residents and employees of Carroll Lutheran Village gathered at the Krug Chapel Auditorium for the Memorial Day service to honor the memory of Malcolm Richardson, a Carroll County native who died in the service of his country 68 years ago. Richardson was honored as a symbol of all those men and women lost in all U.S. wars – past and present.
Following a chapel services, attendees dedicated a new bronze plaque at the base of the original Village flagpole that Malcolm’s family contributed in his memory 31 years ago. This dedication included an honor guard composed of CLV Marine Corps veterans, taps, reading of the poem that Malcolm wrote, and the singing of the National Anthem. Malcolm’s sisters Neets Oswald and Lois Cooney placed flowers were placed at the plaque.
